On Old Peppermint’s farm in Asker parish, a curious thing occurred. A beautiful girl working there on the farm, upon wandering out to the woods one night, chanced upon a huldra girl. Now, it was strange enough that there were any huldra girls there at all — usually, at this time of year, they moved to the forest on the other side of the lake, where the young boys liked to go skinny-dipping — but here is where the story becomes quite exceptional!
This farm girl and the huldra girl, each upon seeing the other, fell in love.
So, I’ve been really inspired by my Scandinavian folklore class lately. The stories about the huldre suitors stood out especially, for whatever reason, so I decided to somewhat subvert them by having both parties fall in love with each other. Also, it’s funny enough that I’m applying this to Sugarless Gum, ha ha. I thought it’d be cute, okay? Mischievous, seductive huldra Marceline, and honest, hard-working farm girl Bonnibel. I took some artistic license — usually, huldrefolk don’t look all that different from humans, aside from the tail, and they usually wear clothes, too. Whoops.
(Sorry if I’ve butchered your local legend. I honestly was just playing around with the idea, no offense intended.)
